Sick Babies

We decided to throw a surprise baby shower for friends of ours (Joe and Abbie), prior to the arrival of their twins. We had a houseful of guests, and enjoyed the day celebrating two miracles.

At the end of the day, I noticed that Em was warm (er...hot), and Jackson was fussy. They both had runny noses and minor coughs. After I got Em out of the tub (where she was with her good friend Emma K.), I took her temp, and it was a blazing 102 degrees. Initially, I felt horrible that we had friends all day in our house, and my kids were sick. I then felt horrible that we had friends all day in our house, and my kids were sick...having to entertain others.

Neither of the kids slept through the night, but they were both troopers. Tommy stayed home with the kids in the morning, and Grammi stayed with the kids in the afternoon. I made a Dr appt for both kids at 4, and rushed home to take them.

They were great the at Dr's office. Em laid on my lap the entire time, while Jackson was the first to undergo the examination (22 pounds - 10 months) by the Dr. Verdict...double ear infection, some chest congestion, and the onset of flu-like symptoms. Em's turn (27 pounds - 2 years 6 months), she wasn't too happy, but she did great...and Dr. S was proud of her! She too, has an ear infection with flu-like symptoms.

It's clear that even when they feel horrible, they are wonderfully behaved little kids, with bright personalities!

After administering the first dose of meds, I gave them each popsicles...they loved them! Em had 3 and Jackson had 2...

Jackson is 10 months

Wow, does time fly!

Today is Jackson's 10 month birthday. I have not posted about a birthday of Jackson's in a while, and thought today would be the best day to start back up.

Dear Jackson,

You are 10 months old and growing by the day! You continue to be the most happy and outgoing baby. You love being around people, and seek out people's attention with your grunts. You are the light (one of the lights) of our lives, and we love spending every second we can with you. Here are some of the things you are doing:

  • still "Army"crawling all over the place
  • you climb the stairs, and would go all the way up if we would let you
  • say "dadada" and still use your grunts to get attention
  • cruise from one thing to another
  • LOVE to eat!! Some of your favorite foods are: pizza, bananas, waffles, peaches, and fruit snacks
  • you have started to drink from sippy cup
  • continue to be a wonderful sleeper!! You sleep from 7:30-7 every day.
  • LOVE your sissy!! You laugh at everything she does, and you want to be everywhere she is.
  • laugh and smile at everyone and everything...you are the most happy baby I have ever met
  • you are wearing 12 month clothing (and 12-18 as well)
  • at your last appointment (a week ago, when you had your third ear infection and 4th case of bronchitis) you were 22 pounds
  • continue to love to play games (peek-a-boo, chase, building castles with your blocks, and playing the piano)
  • you give the biggest hugs...especially when you wake up from your nap and bedtime
  • you try to talk to the dogs and cats...like Sissy, you love animals!
  • Yo-Gabba-Gabba is your favorite TV show
You are the best baby anyone could ask for!! We all love you soo much and are blessed to have you in our lives! Your smile and laugh are contagious, and your personality shines bright on the darkest days! We love you soo much!

Love,
Mommy

My Little Pony

We went home this weekend to spend some time with Mimi and Pop...and, Mimi and Pop got Ellie and Emma a pony (1 for each of the girls). Emma LOVES and ADORES everything about ponies and horses.

We arrived on Friday evening, and spent some fun times with Mimi, Auntie, Ellie, and Allie. Pop and Uncle Toddy were out picking up the ponies, while we are enjoying some play time inside.

All throughout the week, we (Tommy and I) were telling Emma that Mimi and Pop had a surprise for her. When we would ask her what she thought it was, she would say, "To stay with them. To spend the night." She is not the type of person who always wants things or always asks us for toys or goodies. She would have been happy with spending time with Mimi and Poppy...but got so much more than that!

Saturday morning, we got the girls ready, and headed out to the stables...to see the ponies. On the walk there, we were asking the girls what they thought it would be...we said, "It's something you can ride on." Ellie responded with, "A tractor!" Emma responded with, "A horsey." Ellie then told Emma how smart she was.

The girls loved meeting their beloved ponies. Emma's pony has a saddle, bridle, and reigns that are her favorite color...blue. Ellie's pony, of course, is purple.

We didn't think they were going to be able to ride (or even get on) their ponies, but they had no hesitation! Poppy has been around ponies his entire life, and Uncle Toddy lives with horses, so being around these animals, is nothing new to them.

While the girls were meeting their new best friends, Jacks was enjoying his morning snack. Everyone continues to comment how patient and outgoing he is. He loves everyone and everything, and always goes with the flow.

The girls spent some qt with their ponies, riding around the yard. The ponies are still a bit ornery, so it's a tough job getting them to comply...but Pop is great at leading! Emma didn't want to stop the fun, but it was time to call it a day.

Then came in for the rest of the day...seeing how it was -4 degrees outside.

We ended the day at Nanny and Poppy's house. I was extremely anxious to see what the night had in store for me, since Friday night Emma was up until 10:15 yelling, "Mom, Mommy, Mama, Mom, Mommy, Mama...." and on and on.

Sunday, even though Emma and Jackson didn't want to, was time to pack up and get ready to go home. We enjoyed some doughnuts with the family, and finished up our fun time with Mimi, Pop, Uncle Toddy, Auntie Meghan, Ellie, and Allie with playing. We LOVE it at Mimi and Pop's house!!!
